1. As the church experiences persecution and scatters from Jerusalem, God uses the opportunity to move his mission forward, repeating the theme of how God uses what was intended for evil, God uses for good.
Have you ever had this experience? Or where have you seen this same theme take place?

2. Read Acts 8:1-25.
What about this story challenges, confuses, or incites curiosity for you?

3. As Luke tells us about Simon the Sorcerer, do you think he truly converted to the Christian faith?
Why or why not?

4. Peter and John’s prayer for the believers in Samaria to receive the Holy Spirit demonstrated the necessity of the Holy Spirit for both conversion and the ongoing Christian life.
What has been your experience with the Holy Spirit?

5. Prior to the Ethiopian Eunuch coming to faith and receiving baptism to be fully incorporated into Jesus’ kingdom and his church, he asked a very important question: “What can stand in the way of me being baptized?”
What had stood in his way before encountering Philip on the road? (See Deuteronomy 23:1, and Acts 8:31)
What might stand in someone’s way that would prevent someone from knowing Jesus and being incorporated into his kingdom today?

6. What do people today find puzzling in the Scriptures?
Think of particular people you know and the questions you have heard them ask. It may even be your own questions. You don’t need to know the answers at this moment, but it is important to note what those questions are and write them down for future reference.

7. Philip ran alongside the chariot and joined the Ethiopian eunuch to sit with him as he asked questions of the scriptures.
Think about the ways God has presented you with opportunities to figuratively “run beside someone’s chariot” or to “ride along” so that you have an opportunity to tell them about Jesus. Share them with your group.
